I've had the 1000HE on order with BeachCamera for about 2 weeks. They're due to ship around 3-14-09.
One of the primary reasons for choosing the 1000HE over other brands and other Asus models is the battery life, which is rated around 7 hours under normal use, 9 hours under power saving mode.
If you're doing product shots, most current P&S cameras are capable but where the quality will come from is lighting. You'll want to build a soft box to diffuse your light. Some will use work stand lights. To diffuse the lights, you can use tissue paper, white paper, cloth sheets, etc.
Ditto. I held on to my 20D awaiting for the new 5D MKII announcement that was originally slated for the Fall of 2007 but Canon pushed out the MKII release. I got sick of waiting so I sold the 20D and upgraded to the 5D as a back up body.
I've seen pictures with low end filters on and the lens glare is ridiculous, especially with low light/night photography and the light source is visible in the photos. Even with the good filters (ie Hoya, B+W), flare is an issue. It's just worst with the low end ones (ie Tiffen).
I'm using the wet solution/pec pad method, also. Once people overcome the fear of cleaning the sensor, it's very easy. It usually takes me 2-3 passes to clean the sensor since I tend to always get one or two spots that get moved to the edge.
