    jeff before we go any farther ,if you have an ATI video card by default windows will try to use the HD audio over HDMI see the pic and make sure your using the proper settings

    is it turned on in the bios? try clear cmos/reset-? If it is bad it may be cheaper to put in a cheap pci soundcard as opposed to RMA shipping etc.

    Yes AM3 processors have both DDR2 and DDR3 controllers. they will fit and work in some AM2boards,most AM2+ and all AM3 boards.

    I have this cooler mounted on my M3A78-T it mounts up/down ,my antec300 has an exhaust fan directly above it so I did not try to mount otherwise. It is a very good little cooler keeps this 550be under 40 at all times

    Very strange indeed... may actually be most cost effective to just buy a cheap sound card,compared to shipping the board and downtime for RMA Good luck
