Hi everyone,
I'm off to medical school next week and need to offload some hardware. To start:
Visiontek 7970 3GB Reference card with box and accessories SOLD
-- I registered this card when I got it, so it comes with the full manufacturer's warranty. However, Visiontek doesn't allow for...
I've had those cutscene dips on both my 7970 and on two 6970s. The culprit seems to be cinematic depth of field, which, if disabled, makes the problem go away entirely. Irritating, but not a huge IQ loss thankfully.
The 7870M looks like a fantastic card for its power draw, just slightly under the 675M in terms of performance but at about half the wattage -- if the benchmarks on AMD's slides are to be believed. Nvidia's lineup is just plain weird: the 660M is nothing more than an overclocked 650M (DDR5...
Crossfire drivers will probably continue to improve over the next few months, as AMD has time to work on the relatively small backlog of games that have been released after the holiday season. However, come September, I predict many late and broken crossfire driver releases as the driver team...
Not at all. I average 50-60 FPS at that resolution, but I don't have AA enabled. The only time I drop down to 35 or so is when I look at the entire map from a vantage point, say on Karkland. Is that the type of place you're talking about? With MSAA, 25 FPS would make sense.
What's your GPU...
Can somewhat explain to me what the hell is going on in that bottom picture? It looks like the card is becoming sentient and waving at us with its new arms...
I have no clue what resolution or games you're running.
Based on my own experience going from dual 6970s to one 7970 @ 1440p, yeah, the transition to a single card is very much worth it. And almost a free "upgrade" after you sell the 6970s.
No doubt that the 680 is a fantastic card, but it doesn't seem like switching over from an overclocked 7970 is any sort of upgrade -- even when both cards are overclocked:

Unless AMD drivers are...
That graph from the 7970 review is done without AA and gets an average of 97 FPS, while the 680 review graph shows 95 FPS without AA (both for the 7970, obviously). I don't see an increase; both results are well within a margin of error. It's possible that the new drivers haven't contributed...
It's true; who knows when the 28nm mobile parts will be widely available. I'm hoping by July, but if it's Q3 then I may be out of luck. I definitely plan to keep my desktop for work and play. The laptop is primarily for school, but ideally it would be able to play games on low/medium for...
Lol, what the hell? It was $240 after MIR this morning. The price skyrocketed in just a few hours. A lot of 6950s seem to have gone up in price recently.
The 6950 is the better buy at that price, IMO. I'd try to go for a 2GB model that unlocks.

Alright, good to know about the driver support. That was my main concern. I apologize if #3 made it seem like I'm considering either one of those GPUs; I'm actually waiting for the 28nm parts before making a decision. I'm hoping for something like a small, low power version of the 5870M (which...
