Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Do they NEED it? Probably not...now. But when I build them a system, I like to futureproof it as much as possible. I've been given a $1000 budget, I'm well under it and I'm trying to avoid my needing to upgrade it several times to keep up with the times.
Their current build is circa late...
Thanks for the explanation. I think im going to go the Core i5 route. I don't see them needing 12GB of RAM anytime soon, especially if Windows 7 is supposed to be so much better (less bloated and more efficient use of RAM) than Vista.
Can you give me a quick explanation as to why the Intel route would be better than the (more budget) AMD? It's 2x (or 3x) more expensive and I'm skeptical that its 2x-3x faster.
Also, good call on the vid card. I like that its passive cooling, trying to make this build as quiet as possible.

So I've been out of the hardware enthusiast scene for about 2 years now and the time has come to totally re-vamp my parents home computer. 80% of the use will be general surfing/bill paying/turbo taxing/word processing duties. 20% or so will be my mother using it to work from home. She's a...
Why not get a PS3? It is arguably the best blu-ray and upconverting DVD player unless you're spending thousands. Plus you won't be buying into a dead technology.
I would highly recommend getting the top of the line iMac with the lowest amount of RAM from apple. Newegg can hook you up with 4 GB of ram for less than $100. You can also buy a mini-DVI to DVI or VGA for $20 from Apple and any monitor you want for multiscreen goodness.
You may, however have...
The only other power supply I have is an Antec Earthwatts 420w that I've had great luck with. However, word has it that the Abit doesn't like that one either. I think I'm going to go with the GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R. I want/need 8 SATA ports as I have a SATA dvd drive, 1 main HDD and several...
Im in the process of building a new computer.
Specs are
Abit IP35
4GB of G.skill PC6400 DDR2
Intel C2Duo E6750
BFG 8800GT 512mb
Antec 550 NeoPower
Put everything together with an 8400GT and I got a successful POST.
I didn't install windows because I had an 8800GT in the mail. I...
Not true. There are many speakers using a single 6.5" speaker (woofer) hitting the sub 40hz range at either -3db or -6db. Check out Totem speakers or any number of DIY designs.
In fact, one of the best car subs I've ever herd was a folded horn box design with a 6" midbass driver. It would...
Well it'll be easier wiht a budget. You will probably not be happy with $150 spent. So, give us a new figure to work with. You can probably get a very nice solution for <$300 if you are willing to buy used/remanufactured/refurbished.
I bought a set of Insignias for $38 because my roommate is an employee at Best Buy. IMO they cannot be beat for $38. HOWEVER, retail they are $80 or $90 if you dont catch them on sale. At this point they are in the Used Polk RT25i/35i range. Read Stereophile reviews on the RT25i. The...
Sounds like you might enjoy these
Your price range is a little low if you are REALLY looking for detail. I might recommend a pair of Polk RTi35i 6.5" bookshelves and a mini T amp to hold you over until you can afford a decent stereo receiver.
