    Uhh... I must be missing something. Proxy directives are in mod_proxy, not mod_rewrite. Is mod_proxy enabled? I see no mention of it in this thread. Edit: Also since it's an admin type section you may want the ProxyPassReverseCookiePath directive as well.

    You may want to keep your PHP code. I don't know your situation at all but remember to never trust the client (validate all input sent to the server) and also keep in mind clients that do not have javascript enabled. ShoeLace's answer is probably what you want, you can also use a one-off...
