Intel Skylake Core i7-6700K IPC & Overclocking Review @ [H]

When I write multithreaded code (which is all the time), I usually query the runtime to see how many CPUs are available and divide and conquer based on that number. If the algorithm parallelizes well, scaling will be obvious from 4 -> 6 -> 8.

FS Storage Server - 9 2 TB Drives, LSI Raid Card

Bump. I haven't found anyone local, so I'm going to be more open to shipping if the buyer might we willing to help a bit. Shipping this heavy thing is going to cost quite a bit, half of shipping I would expect to be in the 60-80 range, so 830 if you want it shipped. It's still a killer deal.

    2 drives vs RAID 1

RAID 1 is mirroring. You're thinking of RAID 0, or striping. RAID 1: Your two 2 TB drives show up as 2 TB. However, under this configuration you can lose one of the drives and not lose your data. RAID 0: Your two 2 TB drives show up as a 4 TB volume and your data is striped across the...

    Stupid question about 9260-4i

I just got a deal at Newegg so I picked up a 9260-4i plus the Intel expander. Works without a hitch. The expander is nearly completely transparent and all the drives function as I would expect. Like you, I'm limited by GigE ethernet so I don't really need the 8 links to the expander, so I...

AMD "Bulldozer" FX Model 8150 CPU Overclocking Preview @ [H]

Six months wouldn't really be enough time for Intel to do anything drastic. They might released a higher clocked part or something, but they have plenty of headroom there so even now it wouldn't take long for Intel to do so. We see now with Ivy Bridge that Intel's mid-term goals focus on GPU...

Bulldozer Possibly Pushed back till October

That's basically my argument. They don't really know when it's going to be ready, so they don't set a date because it opens them up to liabilities from customers and shareholders. I'm arguing that it is not because of the touted Osborne Effect. If they do know now exactly when it will be...

Bulldozer Possibly Pushed back till October

If the Osborne Effect is as powerful as people seem to think it is (driving companies into bankruptcy), we should see an immediate and drastic fall in sales. If it's tough to extract its effects from other background noise (competition), then I think using it as an excuse not to give an exact...

Bulldozer Possibly Pushed back till October

:(. Well, we can still compare Q2 sales to Q3 sales in about a month to see if announcing the 60-90 day planned obsolescence killed revenue. Given that much of this thread was spent discussing the fact that people generally don't know or care what CPU their computer has, I highly doubt there...

Bulldozer Possibly Pushed back till October

It was only 60-90 days ago that AMD announced that Bulldozer will be released in 60-90 days. That is still fairly vague, but it does at least give you the window of a month. Is this any better or worse than saying that BD will be released in exactly 90 days? They both carry equal probability...

Bulldozer Possibly Pushed back till October

I'm aware of it, but even that article refutes it. Companies of all types are constantly announcing new and improved products for the future. I want to see actual quantitative data that demonstrates demand stalling. For instance, we know that AMD is about to release BD. We've known this...
