I am having a similar problem in Pariah. For whatever reason explosion make my entire screen go black. Also the menus are all jacked up. I tried running the game in SLI, but that only made the problem worse. I am running a pair of MSI 6800s with the latest drivers.
I have both, but I use my iPod alot more. It depends on what you do more...I do love my iPod though. Don't get me wrong, my 6800GT is great, but the 9700 is still a solid card. ;)
I use the 1.2 patch. It seems to have solved alot of the graphical glitches with Nvidia cards. Also you can enable SM3.0. It gives a minor fps boost without sacrificing quality. ;)
I believe that XbitLabs did a write up about this. They actually flashed the BIOS to enable the additional 4 pipelines. They also discovered that the reason the pipelines are shut off in most cases is because they do not function correctly. Basically, Nvidia is taking the GT/Ultra 6800 GPU...
I had similar problem with my 9700 when OC'ing. It would freeze during games for unknown reasons. I adjusted the AGP voltage to 1.7v and my problems went away. I would certainly give it a try.
Also you stated that the card run 65C on average. Have you actually tested it under load? Mine...
32x0 and Ultrashadow 2 are one in the same for all intents and purposes. ;)
It is simply the cards ability to provide 32 pipelines for Z-stenciling, without textures, per pass.
Well, I have had my 6800GT for a few days and once I solved my cooling issues, it runs perfectly fine. I upgraded from a 9700 and while my 9700 was (and still is) a great card, there is no denying that the 6800 is substantially better. :D
I was over at Actriontrip.com and they mentioned the new Doom 3 modpack that Boomtown has put together. One of the items the modpack has is an ultra extreme quality mode. This supposedly creates even further shadowing. Has anyone tried it? If so, what kind of performance hit do you get and...
No, I wasn't getting proper airflow in my case so it turned into a cyclical problem. The card heats up, the case temp goes up, card heats up more, case temp goes up more, and on and on....so I bought an Antec server case and slapped a ton of fans in it and...presto...problem solved. ;)
Well, now that I have solved my heat issue (100C+)...my Leadtek GT clocks at 414/1.15. It also stays at a nice comfortable 65C under load...air cooled :) (Amazing what 8 fans can do for you)
