Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I was at the conference where they gave these numbers. The savings are for total cost of ownership. The impressive thing was being able to provision out of the box macs without anyone from IT touching them. Windows computers need to be imaged still. MS is working on cloud provisioning PCs, but...
Yes, upgrade the RAM! Hell I got two sticks of 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 from upgrading my macs to crazy amounts of ram that I can't give away. Or if you are like me, get four sticks of 4 GB for 16 GB of ram. Then look into putting an SSD in the system. Having done that work, replacing the HD is a pain...
Very nice system. What is the case you are using? It's the only thing I didn't see in your list of parts. Thanks for the great build pics and progress.
I had a closet full of old computer parts thinking the same thing... I donated it all to a local non-profit group that teaches kids how to fix computers. If you don't use it for a year you'll never use it at all.
I have the same MBP. I upgraded to Lion for the hell of it. I've not had many problems. If I were you I would upgrade to 8 gigs of ram. Why? It's so cheap and it is nice to have.
If you want to go crazy, like me, get an SSD and put a bigger HD where your DVD is. Just need a caddy for the HD...
Having replaced the optical drive in on of these imacs... don't. Just get an external USB DVD and call it good. It took me 30 minutes to even get the outer cover off and I work on repairing computers all day long. Apple made the imac to never be opened with out a workbench all the right tools.
I work with macs on a college and there is no worry about imac monitors. The best thing to do is get apple care. With any computer, chances of a component failure in four years is good. With apple care, they just fix it, and the cost of the mac care is well below the cost of repair.
I crack...
I support PCs and Macs and my favorite thing I heard someone actually say to me when I said they should back up there computer in case it breaks is "No, I have a Mac. They don't break."
As far as drive capacity goes... meh... just gives me something else to explain to people when I...
I was doubtful of the touchpad when I got my MBP. Once I had to use it because I had no mouse with me I found it to simply be the best thing. It is not like other track pads. The accuracy and responsiveness are second to none.
I'm almost worried to mention this, but the airport extreme/time capsule does ip6 out of the box. The range on my time capsule is very nice and is able to keep connections up with even with some interference.
