If you're interested in using WMP for AAC playback, do a search for an AAC Directshow filter and parser. Take a look at http://www.rarewares.org/aac-decoders.php, in particular. I haven't tried it myself, but that should put you on the right track.
The uGuru utility grabs its values from the same source as the BIOS does.
Notice that you access the BIOS' temperature display through the menu item called "uGuru" ;).

As far as I know, CoreTemp reports the actual values from the DTS (digital thermal sensor) embedded in the chip itself. uGuru only reports from a motherboard sensor near the CPU.
