This measure is there to dissuade employees from attempting to sell or disseminate information before its been processed/ and or redacted.
They are an organization that handles leaked information and as any such entity should validate said information before release.
It doesn't really matter if other companies took months to disclose. If you know my information has been compromised you tell me RIGHT FUCKING THEN. And not a day later.

RAM, Batteries and HDD are user replacable parts. Opening the chasis of the laptop is not grounds for termination of a warrenty just as you don't void your warrenty by opening your car hood.
People do not want to do things for themselves - they want to pay someone else to do it. I personally take the stance Inform or charge. If I tell them they can do it and they don't want to - then I get guilt free profit.

Amnesia Dark descent is awesome, creepiest games I've played in ages. its a bit like fatal frame in that you had no weapons and need to rely on your wits to survive. but yea survival horror at its greatest ^.^
